Hi! My name is Rachael DeCaria, Registered Dietitian & owner of Plan to Plate, LLC. I am beyond excited for this collaboration with Eastwood Wealth. If you’ve never worked with a Registered Dietitian before, you may have some questions.
Why should I work with a Registered Dietitian?
Just like when you go to see a doctor, dentist, lawyer, etc., you expect that they have received formal education and have earned a degree in their field. Nutrition is no different. You should expect the same formal education for whom you work with for nutritional guidance. Registered Dietitians are the food and nutrition experts that must meet academic & professional requirements including: a Bachelor of Science degree (typically food and nutritional sciences), completion of an accredited, supervised, experiential internship/graduate school, passing of a national exam and complete 75 hours continuing professional education every 5 years to maintain license.
In a society that is receiving nutrition information from all kinds of places – social media, internet blogs, the news, etc. it is a vital time to work with a Registered Dietitian to clear up the confusing headlines & posts that may come across your feed. Registered Dietitians only utilize evidence-based practices. There are no arbitrary “rules” when it comes to your diet. A Registered Dietitian can help to interpret lab work, help you manage chronic disease, food allergies/intolerances and fully personalize a diet plan made specifically for you. No more second guessing your food choices or preferences.
What does working with a Registered Dietitian look like?
A Registered Dietitian can help you with your nutrition choices from many angles. Making quality choices around nutrition is much more than eating your fruits and vegetables. Food is a much more complex than anyone may realize. Food is emotional. Food is spiritual. Food is tradition. Food is planning. Food is nourishing.
A Registered Dietitian will not only tell you what a balanced diet looks like. Topics covered in 1:1 sessions with me may include improved meal planning, basic cooking essentials, building a solid relationship with food & listening to your body, etc. Sessions may be focused on what the individual needs most.
As a Registered Dietitian, the relationship built with clients is just as important as the information being delivered. Theodore Roosevelt said it best, “No one cares how much you know, until they know how much you care”. With every client, I look to build a trusting & lasting relationship. No “diet plan” is a one-size-fit-all approach. Each individual is unique when it comes to building a solid, enjoyable relationship with food. I look forward to getting to know each client on a deeper level to achieve lasting patterns.
How will this improve my quality of life?
Everyone has to eat – it’s our most common denominator. Working with a Registered Dietitian to build a foundation of solid eating patterns is crucial for lasting health. We make many decisions around food. Most people eat three times a day with snacks in between. Building confidence around your food choices is priceless.
Quality of life is defined by the World Health Organization as ‘individuals’ perception of their position in life in the context of the culture and value systems in which they live, and in relation to their goals, expectations, standards and concerns’. Nutrition is one factor that research has shown time and time again to assist in reducing risk of chronic disease, boosting overall energy and adding not only years to your life, but quality to the life left in those years.
Work with me to translate the science of nutrition and disease prevention, improve your skills in the kitchen and to find true happiness in your eating patterns. I am honored for the opportunity to work with you! If you have more questions regarding services, don’t hesitate to reach out and schedule a phone call with me!
