Many ingredients will come into play, some we can influence and others we cannot. The two items most often underestimated are: how expensive it is and how long you will live. Neither are fun to talk about, but facing the reality of both early on is key to maximizing your resources and the possibility of positive outcomes.
Purchase automobiles, fix the roof, renovate the bathroom, replace the heat/AC unit, buy new appliances, redecorate your home, install the generator/hurricane shutters, the list goes on and on. Do all of this before entering a more relaxed phase of life. It will help you stay relaxed and give you more wiggle room to operate when the unexpected happens.
